Ingram Daphne is quite the go-getter. Not only is she a singer-songwriter and dancer, but she also has some big plans outside of music that she shared with us.
How did you initially get into singing and dancing?
My mom and dad would have soirees about twice a month. It was like the thing in my neighborhood. Everyone would come over. My mom would would make an amazing spread. My Dad was responsible for the drinks and I got to be the entertainment for the evening. They would let me perform one song. Haha.
My parents would stop the party and make an announcement. My dad would say, "Ingram has been working on something and she wants to share it with everyone." They would put on some music and I would start singing and dancing. I was the hit of the party.
I would come up with my own choreography and sing my favorite cover song at the time. My parents are so supportive and encouraging. Their support is the reason I am where I am today.
Do you have a favorite performance memory? If so, tell us about it.
My favorite performance would have to be when I went to visit my cousin. She made plans for us to go out that night. We stopped by this hole-in-wall bar and little did I know she had signed me up to sing that night.
We were sitting at a table and then suddenly I hear, "Coming to the stage, all the way from Arizona, USA, give it up for Ingram Daphne." I was so shocked and I also found it hilarious. Needless to say, I got on stage and did my thing. I even made a few bucks that night from tips. It was such a fun night and also a night that I'll never forget.
“Needless to say, I got on stage and did my thing.”
How would you describe the music that you make?
I would say that my music has a mercurial and sultry sound that often blends elements of folk, blues, and punk together. I can be very capricious and alluring. I think my music captures that.
What’s on the horizon for Ingram Daphne?
Continue moving forward. I just want to keep improving and growing as an artist, and more writing which; hopefully leads to another EP real soon.
The right collaboration can take a song to the next level. What’s your dream collaboration, or who would you like to work with in the future?
Aurora. I think that she is a pretty awesome singer-songwriter with great energy. She writes from the soul and the lyrics are very deep.
